Who was killed in ‘House Of The Dragon’ season two episode one?

The second season of Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon is up and running – but what happened to Jaehaerys and Jaehaera in last night’s big premiere? The first episode of season two aired on HBO in the US on June 17, with UK viewers able to watch concurrently via Sky Atlantic and streaming service NOW. Last month, a trailer for the second season was released, which built upon the tension that highlighted season one’s end, when Alicent (Olivia Cooke) and Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans) conspired to put Alicent’s son Aegon II (Tom Glynn-Carney) on the throne after King Viserys (Paddy Considine) snuffed it. Viserys had originally designated daughter Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy) as his heir – but a death-bed change-of-mind (conveniently only heard by Alicent) changed all that. Cue a Targaryen civil war, otherwise known as the ‘Dance Of The Dragons’ by readers of George R.R. Martin’s source books. Advertisement The trailer sees The Blacks, led by Rhaenyra and Daemon (Matt Smith), plan an invasion of King’s Landing to claim the Iron Throne from the Greens, led by Aegon. Over the course of the intense trailer, we get several glimpses of the bloody and fiery conflict to come,… Read More →

Manzanera was the lead guitarist and producer for the legendary art rock group, playing on all eight of their studio albums, released between 1972 and 1982. He has been awarded an OBE for Services to Music. In response to the honour, Manzanera has said: “I’m surprised and honoured to receive this Award. This has a poignancy for me and my family because in 1966 my dad, Duncan Targett-Adams was also awarded the OBE but sadly he died before his investiture.” Phil Manzanera. Manic Street Preachers to celebrate 30th anniversary of ‘The Holy Bible’ with special film screening

Manic Street Preachers will celebrate the 30th anniversary of their 1994 album ‘The Holy Bible’ with a one-off screening of their concert film BePure-BeVigilant-Behave. The album was the band’s third studio record, written during a period when guitarist and lyricist Richey Edwards was struggling with addiction, depression and anorexia nervosa. For the 20th anniversary in 2014, the Manics played the album in full on a ten-date tour, including at London’s Roundhouse. The string of gigs were captured and pieced together by the BAFTA-winning director Kieron Evans for the concert film, and now the band are preparing to screen the movie once again. See a trailer for the film below. Advertisement [embedded content] On August 30, on the exact anniversary of the album’s original release, the film will be shown at the Picturehouse Central cinema in London. It will then be followed by a Q&A with bassist Nicky Wire alongside Evans. You can get your tickets here. Speaking about the film, Wire has said: “We wanted to transfer the intense claustrophobia of the record onto film to reflect the sheer emotional intensity and physical demands of playing those songs. Kaia Kater – Strange Medicine

It’s been a full six years since Kaia Kater’s last album, the exquisite Grenades, but she appears to have spent the time judiciously. Having undertaken a residency at the Canadian Film Centre, she’s broadened an already impressive skill set by composing TV and movie scores, which, in turn, now feed into the soundscapes of Strange Medicine. JONI MITCHELL IS ON THE COVER OF THE NEW UNCUT – ORDER YOUR COPY HERE! At the same time, the album finds Kater rediscovering the passion for banjo – she spent years studying Appalachian music in West Virginia – that made 2016’s Nine Pin so distinctive. The instrument foregrounds a number of songs here, though as part of larger arrangements that find space for inventive, jazz-like percussion, strings, loops, low-key brass and a smattering of electronica. The effect is often dizzyingly fresh and satisfyingly rich, as Kater explores influences as diverse as the West African kora and minimalist hero Steve Reich. “Fédon”, for instance, with guest Taj Mahal, stretches outwards from core banjo to bring semi-symphonic soul and jazz-blues into its artfully measured mix. “In Montreal” fuses a clawhammer figure to syncopated beats and a delicious Celtic fiddle break. “Mechanics Of The Mind” is… Read More →

Holland-Dozier-Holland – Detroit 1969-1977

Born of Eddie Holland’s conviction that he, his brother Brian and their fellow songwriter and producer Lamont Dozier were not getting a fair share of the proceeds from the global success of Berry Gordy Jr’s Motown company in the 1960s, the Invictus and Hot Wax labels made some glorious music as that decade shaded into the next. JONI MITCHELL IS ON THE COVER OF THE NEW UNCUT – ORDER YOUR COPY HERE! The elder Holland set up their labels when the trio were still in dispute with Motown. As Dozier wrote in his autobiography, the lawsuits and countersuits went on for years – “long, complicated and unpleasant”. It was the sourest possible ending to a story that had helped to shape Gordy’s Sound of Young America. Not until 1971, when their contracts expired, were the three free to work for their own company under their own names. Blur – ‘To The End’ review: Britpop legends prove love and friendship outlasts all

“Time is not infinite,” offers Blur’s Damon Albarn in the opening scene of new documentary film, To The End. Born of the Britpop age that promised so much, the band now in their 36th year and on their second comeback seem acutely aware that they aren’t, as their gobby rivals once promised a generation, going to “live forever”. We begin with Albarn enjoying a pastoral existence on the rural Devon coast; getting cut up by Land Rovers on winding roads, celebrating the first egg from his beloved pet chicken and living in a very big house in the country. But all’s not well. Shattered by the split from his partner of 25 years, the self-confessed workaholic turns his heartache into song – and can only do it with his oldest friends around him. As guitarist Graham Coxon puts it, “a boulder is dislodged” within his pal – with two decades of pent up emotion pouring out. [embedded content] That frank and honest storyline alone (we often see the frontman struggling and in tears) would have made for a must-see film, but the stakes are higher. As well as charting the indie legends’ recording of their immaculate comeback album ‘The Ballad… Read More →

Former Jack singer Anthony Reynolds becomes homeless and launches crowdfunder

Anthony Reynolds, the former frontman of ‘90s Britpop band Jack, has become homeless and a fundraiser has been launched to help him. Reynolds led the Cardiff band from 1992 to 2002, releasing three studio albums. Their music often drew comparisons to the chamber pop of artists such as Scott Walker and The Divine Comedy and the art rock of Roxy Music and Suede. In a GoFundMe page that has been created for him by John Williams, it is explained that Reynolds has been homeless “since his landlord sold the flat he had lived in for over a decade”. The campaign aims to raise £8,000 and at time of writing has so far reached a total of over £3,400. You can see the fundraiser page here. Advertisement [embedded content] It goes on to say that Reynolds has had to face the “stigma” of being a “50 something self-employed musician/writer”, which has made finding a new flat difficult. “He’s spent the last year sofa surfing, staying in b&bs, caravans and a friend of a friend’s barn,” it continues. “He has been on the council waiting list for accommodation for years, but even homeless, the most they’ve been able to offer him is… Read More →

Ariana Grande responds to Nickelodeon ‘Quiet On Set’ abuse reports: “It’s devastating”

Ariana Grande has said it has been “devastating” to learn about the abuse stories that were uncovered by the Nickelodeon Quiet On Set documentary. The five-episode Discovery docuseries aired in March, detailing behind-the-scenes scandals at the children’s television channel, with particular focus on Dan Schneider’s tenure as producer and showrunner on shows including All That, The Amanda Show and Zoey 101. Schneider has since filed a lawsuit against the show’s producers. Another show that Schneider created and produced was Victorious, in which Grande starred for four seasons between 2010 and 2013.
