Red Velvet announce new mini-album ‘Cosmic’, out this month

K-pop girl group Red Velvet have announced a new mini-album titled ‘Cosmic’ to be released later this month.

South Korean label SM Entertainment announced details about Red Velvet’s upcoming release through the girl group’s official X (formerly Twitter) account on June 10 at midnight KST. The post revealed both the title of the quintet’s comeback and its official release date, on June 24 at 6pm KST.

According to a press statement from the label via Newsen‘Cosmic’ is set to include six songs in total, which the company says will take influences from “a variety of genres, which is expected to introduce the expanded world of Red Velvet’s music”.

The announcement comes about a week after SM Entertainment confirmed reports of a Red Velvet comeback. It followed member Joy’s comments on June 3 via fan community app Bubble, where she expressed her concern over the lack of confirmation and promotion about the band’s upcoming music.

‘Cosmic’ will arrive about seven months after their third studio album, ‘Chill Kill’. In a glowing four-star review of the record, NME‘s Tanu I. Raj described it as a “deliciously dark, delightfully macabre” with the group “spinning chilling tales with flawless harmonies at the centre”.

Meanwhile, in March 2024, Red Velvet’s Wendy dropped her sophomore mini-album ‘Wish You Hell’. The project also marked her first solo release since her debut mini-album ‘Like Water’ in 2021.
