The unlikeliest of pairings may be going head-to-head in a battle of their biggest hits, and honestly, we kind of hope it happens. On Saturday (May 16th), Akon took to his Instagram story to reveal to his followers that he'd been challenged to a hit battle by the most surprising and non-sensical potential opponent imaginable: Tekashi 6ix9ine.
"@6ix9ine just challenged me to a battle tomorrow at 3:30pm Live on IG," Akon wrote on a screenshot of himself and 6ix9ine on Facetime. "IT'S ON." So, will these two really be stepping into the metaphorical ring later today? Well, most likely not. Ever since the recently incarcerated rapper made his comeback earlier this month, he's been back on his usual bullshit, trolling people left and right and monumentally pissing people off. It appears as though Akon is just the most recent victim of 6ix9ine's relentless antics, especially considering he's since deleted the Instagram story announcing the battle. However, if this really does happen, it'll certainly be a memorable affair. Somebody get Timbaland and Swizz Beatz on the phone!

While, musically speaking, Akon and 6xi9ine certainly aren't similar enough to compete against one another, their apparent friendship isn't totally out of the blue, as Akon has proved to be one of 6ix9ine's only allies in the industry. Around the time that 6ix9ine was sentenced last fall, Akon defended his decision to snitch in court, and once he was released from prison last month, the singer reiterated his initial remarks about the situation.

French Montana Reacts After Winning Kendrick Lamar Hit Battle On Hot 97
French Montana wins the hit battle against Kendrick Lamar on Hot 97, proceeds to go nuts on Twitter.
French Montana may not be so offbase after all?
When he initially proposed that he would "outshine" Kendrick Lamar at a festival because he "has more hits," the general public was disgusted that he would even think to utter those words. However, after the makeshift battle that happened on Hot 97 this week, French Montana is urging us all to think deeper about it.
With Peter Rosenberg representing Kendrick Lamar and Kast One playing French Montana's hits, the entire crew at Hot 97 attempted to determine who has more bangers, once and for all.

Surprisingly enough, the Coke Boys rapper ended up winning with a 6-4 decision and, of course, he caught wind of the victory. Realizing that he may not actually be insane, he took to Twitter to deliver an all-caps message to his critics.
"I GUEST IM NOT CRAZY AFTER ALL," wrote French on social media. "FRENCH MONTANA VS KENDRICK LAMAR HOT 97 TOUGHEST CRITICS SCORE 6-4 FRENCH MONTANA WINS WATCH FOR YOURSELF ! ITS GOOD TO STAND UP FOR YOURSELF TO ALL YOU UNDERDOGS OUT THERE . WE JUST TALKING HITS NOTHING ELSE BY THE WAY."
Of course, French has the hometown advantage as Hot 97 is based out of New York. Without the NY representation, do you think French would have a shot against Kendrick?
Ja Rule Challenges 50 Cent To A Hit Battle
Boiling off the battle fever, Ja Rule stepped up to challenge his old pal 50 Cent to an old-fashioned battle of the hits.
Old habits die hard, and Ja Rule's ceaseless desire to go at his old rival 50 Cent is no exception. Even today, the pair of enemies have kept their feud alive, the fires of hatred burning as bright as ever, unaffected by the passage of years upon years. And while the infamous beef did lead to a few dangerous moments outside of the studio, much of it was kept on wax, leading fans to ultimately declare Fif the winner following the arrival of his Shady/Aftermath reinforcements. Clearly, the sting of defeat has yet to fade from Ja Rule, who looked to tip the scales in his favor with a new challenge for his old pal.

During a recent IG Live conversation between Fat Joe and Swizz Beatz, Ja rang in to pitch the prospect of a hit-for-hit battle against 50 Cent. "He loves hip-hop first and foremost," laughs Joe, outlining Rule's intention to the Verzuz co-founder. "He wants to do this for the culture. Jesus Christ, Rule, you guys want the smoke for real. Swizz responds with a cryptic message to Rule: "just get me the twenty."
Joe proceeds to put Rule on speakerphone, and the Murder Inc rapper voices his desire to see this one through. "I'll behave!" he promises, though Swizz is unconvinced. "That sounds like a devilish behave," he muses, his suspicions no doubt fuelled by Ja's ominous cackle. In fairness, Joe seems to think the match-up would break the internet, prompting Ja to boast about the strength of his catalog. "We know the catalog," replies Swizz. "We just want to make sure the intentions is where they need to be."
While Swizz's concerns are valid, the prospect of seeing 50 Cent and Ja Rule facing off in a battle of hits would certainly make for an interesting moment - especially if they find themselves able to put aside their differences after years of heated animosity. What do you think -- should Swizz Beatz make this happen?
View this post on Instagram2 Chainz Challenges Meek Mill To A Hit Battle, Meek Responds
With battle fever at an all-time high, 2 Chainz issues a challenge to his friend and collaborator Meek Mill.
It’s a new week, and the competitive spirit has yet to die down. In fact, it seems more alive than ever, with 2 Chainz actively seeking a foe with whom he can engage in a hit-for-hit battle. Unfortunately, the task is proving to be easier said than done.
“So I put up a post saying that Atlanta has run the game for the past couple of decades,” begins Tity Boi. “And me wanting to participate in this Versus thing that Swizz and Timbaland have got going on. So we were thinking of some people outside the city to compete with. Some people were saying Drake, but Drake got more hits than The Beatles, like literally, we know this. Somebody say Wayne, but he been rapping before all of us, we all came up on Tune.”

“Then Snoop chimed in, but he got a couple of projects produced by Dr. Dre,” continues 2 Chainz . “When he drop his stuff, it’s going to stick. We know what Snoop has in his bag. I’m trying to see who I can go against. I saw French say Fab. Fab got some dope-ass girl records but I got that trap. Somebody said Meek, and I thought that would be dope. So let’s do it Meek. Let’s do it.”
With the challenge officially issued, it didn’t take long before Meek Mill caught wind of Tity’s offer. “I just wanna watchhhh lol,” wrote Meek, sliding into the comments. “Respectfully bowing out to my brother.” Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear the battle will transpire as expected, though 2 Chainz will likely remain on the hunt for a worthy opponent. Off the top, both Jadakiss and Rick Ross would be interesting challenges for Tity Boi, having both amassed beloved discographies throughout their respective careers — here’s hoping we can see 2 Chainz doing battle before all this is over.
Rich The Kid Challenges A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie To A Hit Battle
A lust for battle has stricken the cabin-fever addled rap game, and Rich The Kid is officially calling out names.
Rich The Kid, the self-declared boss man and CEO of Rich Forever Records, has assembled himself a solid repertoire of hits over the course of his still-young career. Especially now that he’s gone and dropped off Boss Man, his first album in a projected series to conclude later this year. Yet even amid all the success, all the music made, all the chart positions climbed, Rich The Kid has found himself in the same predicament as any of us — which is to say, stuck in quarantine.

As such, he’s likely been tuning in to the influx of glorious battles we’ve been seeing transpire on Instagram Live. Timbaland vs. Swizz Beatz. Scott Storch vs. Mannie Fresh. Tory Lanez vs. French Montana. The-Dream vs. Sean Garrett. The competitive spirit appears to be at an all-time high, and Rich The Kid has found himself bitten by the dueling bug. As such, he’s taken a break from frolicking in the nearby meadow to call out names: that of A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, to be sure.
Though the challenge has since been deleted, remnants of it have been preserved by the ever-watchful eyes on Instagram. It should be noted that Rich The Kid’s callout does not appear to be mean-spirited, as he has previously collaborated with A Boogie on “Like Mike” off The World Is Yours 2. Yet seeing as both men have declared themselves the King Of New York, there would definitely be some underlying stakes at play, were the battle to actually manifest. And if so, who would you be betting on?
